This is the wonderful Family that has brought us terrific wines at freak’n awesome prices! Honoro Vera Garnacha, “You know the label” the one with the young man with the incredible painted face! There is a ton going on with this wine, lots of fruit with a kick of spice. This is a wine that you could pair with any good cut of meat! Another beauty is Juan Gil Monastrell, this is a big wine; big ripe fruit grows even more as the wine breathes. It kicks butt with some hard cheeses, fruit and can even stand next to a good rubbed seasoned chicken, beef or pork dish. Now to my latest find from The Gil Family: Laya. I came across this baby while I was organizing the wine racks at the store. Simple label (grey with 2 foiled leaves) for a not so simple blend consisting of 70% Garnacha and 30% Monastrell the result is an incredible silky finish with along with a combo of spice and vanilla. With all these great wines from the Gil family boy would I love to go to one of their family reunions!! Until the next adventure in a bottle……
