The classic martini is made from 2 ounces gin, or vodka, and a splash of dry vermouth. It's dryness is defined by the amount of vermouth added. The less vermouth, the drier the drink. But today the dry Martini is only one of many interpretations of this classic drink.

Classic martini - The classic 4:1 ratio ä combine 3 oz. gin, 3/4 oz. dry vermouth in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Garnish with an olive or two.

Dry martini - Pour 1/2 oz. of vermouth into a cocktail glass. Swirl it around to coat, then pour the vermouth in a second glass and repeat. Discard the vermouth. Chill the glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes or so. Add 3 oz. ice-cold gin to each glass. Garnish with olives.

Wet martini - 11/2 oz. gin, 11/2 oz. dry vermouth

Perfect martini - 2 oz. gin, 1/2 oz. dry vermouth, 1/2 oz. sweet vermouth

Sweet martini - 2 1/4 oz. gin, 3/4 oz. sweet vermouth

Dirty martini - 3 oz. gin, 1/2 oz. dry vermouth, 1/2 tsp. olive brine. Garnish with an olive or two.

Chocolate Martini - Combine 2 oz. vodka, 1 oz. dark crËme de cacao, 1 oz. chocolate liqueur in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and pour into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a Pocky (chocolate-dipped cookie stick, available at Asian markets) swizzle stick.

Peppermint Martini - Combine 21/2 oz. gin or vodka, 1/2 oz. Peppermint Schnapps in a shaker/glass over ice.Ý Shake or stir well, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a miniature candy cane as swizzle stick.

Blue Martini - 1 1/2 oz. Gin, 1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth, 1/2 oz. Blue Curacao Shake well with ice and strain into martini glass.Ý Garnish with a lime twist.

The Modern Martini - 1 1/2 ounces gin or vodka 1/4 ounce or no vermouth Stir with cubed ice, strain into chilled cocktail glass.

Martini Royale - 3 oz. Vodka or Gin, Chilled Champagne Pour chilled Vodka or Gin in a chilled cocktail glass, Top with Champagne, Garnish with a twist

Vodka Martini - 2 oz. Vodka, 1/2 oz. Vermouth Shake or Stir over ice & Serve on the rocks or Strain into a chilled Cocktail glass, Garnish with a spear of Olives, *For a Dry Martini, omit vermouth & Garnish with a Twist

Diego Martini - Vodka with a Splash of Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, combined with Orange Juice.
