The Pilsner style originated in the mid-1800s in Bohemia and was the first lager to be golden and satisfying. The style became popular as drinking vessels evolved from opaque metal, stone, and leather to glassware. The golden clarity of the Pilsner style -- a novelty in a time of dark, cloudy beers -- became the toast of imperial Vienna and Munich. Soon emigrating brewers brought Pilsner to the New World.
Samuel Adams' Golden Pilsner is classically German, brewed with Saaz and Spalt Spalt hops for a subtle hop finish and a balanced dryness. Two-row and caramel malts give this beer a soft palate and a medium body. Golden Pilsner is a clean, crisp, beautifully balanced beer that is delicious with seafood, pork, veal, chicken, and mild cheeses.
Boston Beer Company founder and brewer, Jim Koch, said of his newest beer: "Pilsner is perhaps the best known and least understood style in the world of brewing. Samuel Adams Golden Pilsner has an extraordinary depth of flavor and balanced complexity from the use of Spalt Spalt, a unique and rarely used variety of hops. And, most importantly, it's a pleasure to drink."
Samuel Adams Golden Pilsner is the eighth year-round style to be brewed by Boston Beer Company. It joins Samuel Adams Boston Lager, Boston Ale, Honey Porter, Scotch Ale, Cream Stout, Boston Lightship, and Triple Bock. Also brewed under the Samuel Adams banner are six seasonal brews: Double Bock, Cherry Wheat, Octoberfest, Winter Lager, Cranberry Lambic, and Old Fezziwig Ale.
