Rum Review A Rum for Every Taste
We tasted 34 different Rums and found quite a diversity...and plenty of delicious surprises.

Appleton Estate VX: This Bourbon-colored Jamaican rum has plenty of wood and lingering smoke in its flavor profile.

Appleton White Jamaica Rum: A slightly peppery nose gives way to a rounded flavor with slight hints of wood.

Bacardi Anejo: A blend of one-to-six-year-old Puerto Rican rums with a maple nose and smooth, mellow flavor that finishes dry.

Bacardi Gold: A golden-colored Puerto Rican rum with a rich, mellow taste and hints of pepper.

Bacardi Light-Dry: This Puerto Rican rum has a slight hint of banana in its nose and a warm, syrupy palate.

Bacardi Limon: An intense citrus nose is paid off with a flavor that captures the essence of a lemon rind while remaining sweet.

Bacardi 151: This straw-colored overproof rum has a slightly buttery nose with a warm, lingering peppery finish.

Bacardi Select: A dark mahogany-colored rum featuring a maple nose, warm taste and hints of smoke.

Bacardi Spiced: A hint of almond in the nose is followed by a buttery flavor with the slight touch of pear.

Brugal Anejo Gran Reserva Familar: A copper-colored Dominican rum with a honey nose and a thin but coating balance of sweet and peppery flavor tones.

CJ. Wray Dry Rum: A Jamaican rum with a clean aroma and an almost gin-like flavor profile with hints of juniper.

Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum: A subtle nosed and golden-colored rum with a refreshing flavor alternating pepper and cinnamon notes.

Captain Morgan Private Stock: This Puerto Rican rum has a nutty, sweet, candy flavor.

Castillo Gold: This tarnished-gold-colored rum from Puerto Rico has a smooth, silky taste and a reserved alcoholic finish.

Demerara Reserve Overproof Rum: This colorless rum from Guyana has a fruity nose and intense alcohol flavor with hints of burnt grains.

Don Q Cristal: A Puerto Rican rum with a very clean aroma and near neutral flavor that finishes with a touch of licorice.

Flora de Cana Grand Reserve: This seven-year-old Nicaraguan ariejo has a slight wood nose, amber color and spicy warm flavor that gives way to an almond finish.

Gosling's Black Seal: A deep amber rum from Bermuda with a buttery mouth feel and undertones of fruit.

Mount Gay Eclipse: This rum from Barbados has a slightly woody flavor and a sweet, smoky finish.

Mount Gay Extra Old: A rich amber color and woody nose give way to a deep full flavor that features bits of pepper and herbs.

Mount Gay Sugar Cane Rum: This rum has an inviting aroma and an understated taste with bits of pepper and herbs in the finish.

Mr. Boston Virgin Island Rum: This silver rum has a fruity nose, a touch of the tropics in its flavor and hints of berries.

Myers's Original Dark Rum: This cola-colored rum from Jamaica coats the mouth and gives off some woody, earthy tones.

Ocumare Anejo Especial: A rum from Venezuela with a rich bouquet, dark color and a velvet buttery flavor.

Palo Viejo: This golden Puerto Rican rum has a candy nose with a slightly peppery taste and a warm finish.

Port Royal West Indies Rum: This golden rum has a reserved nose and a mellow flavor with hints of smoke.

Pusser's Original Navy Rum: Made from a blend of rums from Trinidad, Guyana and Tortola, this rum offers a maple nose, a thin, peppery palate and a hint of wood in the finish.

Rainbow Rum: This clear West Indies product has a sweet nose and a licorice aftertaste.

Rhum Barbancourt: This four-year-old rum from Haiti has a slightly alcoholic nose, smooth, rich taste and warm finish.

Rhum Barbancourt Estate Reserve: This 15-year-old rum is copper colored with a dry oaky flavor and lengthy aftertaste.

Rhum Grandier: This straw-colored spiced rum has an apple-walnut-bread nose, full flavor and a sweet finish.

Ron Barcelo Emperador Premium Blend: This copper-colored Dominican rum is a blend of four-to-eight-year-old rums. It has an extremely smooth taste with hints of almond and vanilla in the finish.

Ron Barcelo Gran Anejo Blanco: This is a blend of one-to-four-year-old Dominican rums that features a hint of coconut in the nose with a sweet flavor that finishes with a herbal flare.

Ronrico Silver: A subtle peach aroma sets up the dry, thin flavor of this rum from Puerto Rico.
